Gretna Gateway Outlet Village - Phase III planning application and new lease for M&S

28 April 2009

Orchard Street Investment Management, a leading UK specialist commercial property investment manager, has extended one of its major anchor stores at Gretna Gateway, its 125,000 sq ft Outlet Centre on the M6 at Gretna, in the Scottish Borders.

Marks & Spencer have signed a new ten year lease to commence in May 2009. As part of their commitment to the scheme Marks & Spencer’s unit is to be extended and fully refurbished to provide their optimum trading size of 11,600 sq ft. Acknowledging the high level of retailer demand at the scheme, Orchard Street is seeking to extend the centre and has submitted a detailed planning application for a new 15,000 sq ft Phase III development to adjoin the current Phase I section of the scheme. The prominently located units will offer space varying from 1,000 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft and will add to the already diverse retail environment.

Gretna Gateway is the focal point in the Borders region for out of town quality discounted retailing and has benefited from the recent development a new car parking facility that has added 250 spaces – making a total car parking availability of over 1,000 spaces.

Chris Bartram, Chairman of Orchard Street , said

“We are delighted that a retailer of the calibre of Marks & Spencer has chosen to endorse the trading potential of Gretna Gateway by signing for the long term. We are attracting other high profile fashion brands and investing heavily in re-branding the centre. Our plans for Phase III will improve the retail environment and will enlarge the space available for occupiers. We look forward to reporting on further progress in due course.”

Letting agents for the project are CHD Property.
